On March 31st transgender people and their allies gathered in Centennial Park. The annual International Transgender Day of Visibility celebrates the transgender community and raises awareness of discrimination individuals often face. Local activist Ezra Galen saw there was no local event and decided to host one, to encourage people to “fight as allies, and to help people realize that change is coming and inclusion is happening.” Almost one hundred people attended, and over a dozen speakers shared their experiences and offered allyship. Ezra and Kasey Fraize, a peer educator, spoke of their personal journeys. The highlight was when Alanis Garcia, who is herself
transgender, announced her candidacy for Florida House District 77.
