Betsy Vaughn is a native of New Jersey. She received her B.A. from Upsala College and an M.Ed. from The College of New Jersey. She has two adult daughters who live in Southwest Florida, and two grandchildren who attend Lee County public schools.
Ms. Vaughn has had a 38-year career as a secondary Language Arts teacher. Prior to relocating to Southwest Florida in 2005, she was the English Department Chairperson for 19 years at The Colony High School, a 4-A school in suburban Dallas. The last 8 years of her career were spent here in Lee County at Estero High School.
She is running to be your representative on the Lee County School Board because she wants to see equity among Lee County schools so that all children have equal access to special programs and resources. She will work to establish a productive working relationship between the LCSB and county and municipal government entities.
Betsy Vaughn has remained active in the community. Her current activities include Guardian ad Litem child advocate, Community Conversations discussion leader (Lee Library program for seniors), Partnering for Results panel member (Lee County Commissioners), Lee School Board Continuous Systemic Improvement Advisory Committee (Chair), and Thornberry II of Legends Homeowner Association (Secretary).
Membership in local organizations: NOW- Lee and Collier Chapter, Montage Women’s Club (Charities Chair), The Haitian-American Democratic Club of Lee County (Secretary and Scholarship Chair), Island Coast FEA-Retired, and the Democratic Women’s Club of Lee County.
