Florida Democratic Party Chair Congratulates the Winners of the Nov. 2, 2021 Elections
After a night that saw the election of Ken Welch, the first Black mayor in St. Petersburg’s history and the election of the first Latina to the St. Petersburg City Council, Florida Democratic Party Chairman Manny Diaz issued the following statement congratulating them and other winners of the Nov. 2 elections:
“A big congratulation is in order to all the Democratic winners from last night’s elections, who showed there is a path for Democrats to retake the Governor’s Mansion and to unseat Sen. Marco Rubio. Floridians are aligned with Democratic values, such as freedom from Tallahassee’s strongarming of educators and local officials.
“These victories show we have a talented pool of local officials who can articulate these values and policies at the local level, values that will bring prosperity to our communities and put the state back on track after a tumultuous period where we have seen nearly 60,000 lives lost to a pandemic Ron DeSantis allowed to run amok and where we have seen Republicans attack rights such as freedom of speech and the right to vote.
“These quality elected officials can and will fight over the next year to protect these freedoms. I congratulate them once more for a job well done and look forward to working with them closely for the well-being of Floridians of all backgrounds.”
