If you believe, like I do, in a truly “Great America”—one where we wage war on poverty not on poor people, feed the hungry not blame them, provide fair housing instead of rewarding slumlords, where we educate all our children not close the Department of Education, and pay our teachers a livable wage; where nurses are valued as much as Health Care CEOs where we protect our environment, hold insurance companies accountable, and provide equal opportunities for all to achieve the American Dream all the while ensuring that justice and the rights of everyone are upheld—then the time has come for action.
For over 25 years, Republicans have controlled Florida politics. During this time, they could have passed any law to address the many problems plaguing our state. So, suppose you are angry about issues such as our insurance crisis, poor water quality, rising crime, unchecked growth, low teacher pay, or the fact that less than half of fifth graders are reading at grade level, as well as the high costs of food and housing. In that case, it’s time to hold the Republicans accountable. As Rita Mae Brown said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Now is the time to stop the insanity and demand that OUR government address the problems WE face. We need to pay attention to our City Council and School Board members, our County Commissioners, State Legislators, and U.S. House and Senate delegation. THEY should be working for US, but clearly they have been working for themselves, the Governor, and the President.
Let’s build a better America, that Great America in which all of us are respected, all of us have equal justice and all of us are woven into the fabric of America.

- Watch for both local and special elections.
