Democratic Party of Lee County, FL

FDP – From the Chair’s Desk, 2/11/24

Florida Democrats,

Our justice system was put to the test this week. On Wednesday, the Florida Supreme Court held oral arguments to determine whether or not to allow the abortion ballot initiative to make it onto the November ballot.

Now, the court has until April 1st to make a decision after over 1.4 million Democrats, Republicans, and Independents came together and signed a petition for this referendum to make it onto the ballot. The Justices also have yet to indicate whether they will uphold the 15-week abortion ban, which will trigger the 6-week ban.

Florida Democrats – there’s a lot at stake, and we’re going to make sure that we’re ready to organize and fight back for whatever decision is made.

This coming week, we are kicking off our Black History Month tour starting with a press launch and Day of Action on Saturday, February 17 in South Florida. The tour will stop in six counties across the state and focus on re-engaging Black inactive voters.

On Wednesday, we’ll observe the 6th anniversary of the Parkland shooting. On behalf of everyone at the Florida Democratic Party, I send my love to the families and all who lost someone on this terrible day six years ago.

May we continue to honor them with action.

Thank you.
Nikki Fried
Chair
Florida Democratic Party

This is a document that will be under revision throughout the cycle as we add more guidance and resources for the benefit of our counties. If you would like to have something added to the toolkit, please e-mail our VR Director to connect on this. We encourage knowledge sharing across our state, so we welcome your input!
